Sovereign Harbour is a large marina and waterfront quarter at the eastern end of Eastbourne, built in the 1990s on old shingle. Several linked harbours, a few hundred berths, restaurants, a cinema and shops. It is not on the Airbourne display line — that is the point. After a full day on the Lawns it is the reset.
The harbour was constructed in the early 1990s as a mixed marina and housing scheme, one of the biggest of its kind on the south coast. The name comes from the old Sovereign shingle, the eastern beach. Lock gates keep the inner basins at a constant level.
During Airbourne
You will not see the flying well from here. Come after the last slot, or on a morning when you want breakfast that is not a lawns queue. Local buses run from the town and the eastern seafront; walking the whole prom from the Lawns is about 40 minutes and takes you past the Redoubt.
Worth knowing
- Good for an evening meal when the prom pubs are still full of the show.
- Walk it via the Redoubt if you still have legs. Bus if you do not.
- Not a viewing spot. Do not come here expecting Typhoons.
